Hello Rappers!
Welcome to the Beijing Olympic Games & Book Week 2008 Rap! My name is Mrs Keane and I will be coordinating this book rap. I am the editor of Scan, which is a quarterly journal for teacher librarians and teachers. My office is at Ryde, a north western suburb of Sydney. I have a lovely view of native trees and birds through my window.
Work together with your class group to write a short introduction about your class and school. Please tell us a few details about your school. For example, you may wish to write about the size and location of your school, the uniform and emblem, the daily fitness program, or anything that makes your school special. Your teacher or teacher librarian will then post your introduction to the rap blog, under this Introductions tab. I am looking forward to reading about your school.
Remember to end each message with the name of your group and your school so that other rappers will know where you are from, for example, 3M Active from Palm Tree PS.
Happy rapping!

Hi we’re 5J. We are from Nowra Public School. There are about 600 students at this school – we rock! We do a lot of sporting activities eg. soccer, cricket, football, AFL, skipping, basketball, dodgeball, netball, softball, dancing, athletics and we will begin lawn bowls soon. Our school uniform is Maroon and White and our emblem is the Lyrebird. We have to wear our uniform every day, except mufti days.
Nowra is a small town near the coast of New South Wales. About 2 to 3 hours south of Sydney depending on traffic. Some special features of Nowra are; the mountains, Shoalhaven RIver, HMAS Albatross, and the ocean is approximately 20 kms away.
Recently, our town opened the new Shoalhaven Enterainment Centre – this is where there are performances, meetings and choir, dancing, orchestras etc.
We have 27 children in our class, our teacher’s name is Mr Jenkinson. He loves maths and that’s all we do! Some of the boys in the class are really badly behaved and the girls are favoured by our teacher. Our teacher takes us out to play, we also do art. Some of our desks are broken (not by us) and being replaced this week.
We have not participated in a book rap before and we don’t really know what to expect. We are looking forward to working together with our librarian to study the olympics and reading the Shaggy Gully Times.
Bye for now, 5J Nowra Public School

Hello, we are a group of 13 children in Stage 3 from Woolgoolga Public School.
WPS is on a hill by the ocean. We have sea views from some of the library windows.
Woolgoolga is called Woopi for short. It is located 30kms north of Coffs Harbour and the town centre is just off the Pacific Highway. Woolgoolga is well known for its large Indian community and travellers on the highway will often notice one of our impressive Sikh temples.
We have a community language teacher in our school who teaches Punjabi to all the classes. Our school motto is Learning, Caring, Sharing and we feel this is what our school is all about. There are 357 students in our K-6 school.
We are taking part in this Book Rap every Wednesday in the school library with Mrs Molloy our teacher/librarian. Some of us will also help with the rap during lunch on other days.
Looking forward to rapping from Woopirappers13 at Woolgoolga PS.

Hi everyone,
We’re 4C from Manly Village Public School in Sydney. We’re celebrating 150 years of being a public school. This is called our sesquicentennary.
Our school is very close to Manly Beach. We can smell the salt and hear the surf from our classroom. We have about 480 students at our school and 29 students in our class, of which 20 are girls!! Mr Cogger is our teacher and Mrs Neill is our Teacher Librarian. This is our first book rap and we are feeling very excited about taking part.
We are a very fit and healthy school and since we live near the beach we can do sailing, kayaking, beach volleyball, surfing and we also play rugby league, soccer and netball.
One of the best things about living in Manly is the amazing sea life. We have little penguins, dolphins, sharks and sometimes we see whales passing by.
We are really looking forward to reading all your responses and locating your schools.
Stay healthy….adios, ciao…

Hi we are 3R at Nowra Public School, our teacher is Mrs Rodden. Our school is on Plunkett Street, Nowra.
Interesting information about Nowra: Naval Air Base, Newly constructed Entertainment Centre, we’re close to Jervis Bay and beaches, we have some good bush walking tracks nearby.
Special events in our school community – book week, week 5. Year 3 went to Olympic Park and Elizabeth Farm, Year 6 went to Canberra.
We think Manly School is very lucky to be able to hear the waves of the beach and have surfing for sport. We would love to watch whales go by too.
Woolgoolga PS – send our love to Mr Carter (from Mrs Rodden and Mrs Williams)
Talk to you later.

It’s amazing that our first 6 rapping classes are from coastal areas of NSW. Having visited each of these places, I know that you are all lucky to have such wonderful local environments.
I hope you enjoy the rap and anjoy reading and responding to the comments of fellow rappers. The countdown is on. Hurry up 08/08/08 because we’re ready to rap.

Hi everyone, we are 4/3B from Manly West PS in Balgowlah. Our teacher is Miss Barnard and she rocks! We have 24 children in our class and our school has about 650 children. Our principal is Mr Daley, he is very nice and takes good care of his school.
Manly West is just up the road from Manly Village PS! We have a large oval where we enjoy playing lots of sports like football, tag, soccer, tip, t-ball and lots more. We also have a few netball and basketball courts. 4/3B love our school’s handball courts where we play handball every recess, lunch, before and after school!
Our school has a motto, which is courtesy and cooperation. We always try to be polite, respect the rights of others, cooperate and play safely. Our school uniform is blue and gold and very bright in summer.
Like Manly Village, we are near the beach (not quite as close as them though!) so we enjoy lots of outdoor activities.
We are looking forward to the Beijing Olympics, reading The Shaggy Gully Times and rapping with you all.

Welcome 4/3B manlywestrappers. I’m glad you are looking forward to the Olympics and sharing the humorous book, The Shaggy Gully Times. Do you like the full title of this book? We’ll just use the short version for the rap or we’ll be typing all day!
You are lucky to have such a range of sporting activities at your school. All of the rappers, so far, seem to be busy playing sport and being really active!

Good afternoon rappers!
We are Stage 2 students in 3DV Maths group at Penrith Public School. We get to do the rap while our friends stay in the room to do maths. They will swap with us at 12.30pm.
Penrith PS is a great school with great teachers. We are surrounded by nature, but we are very close to High Street which is a main road. There are about 400 students at our school.
We are looking forward to seeing the Opening Ceremony in Birdsnest Stadium on TV. Kallie says “The Shaggy Gully Times” is an amazing book because it looks like a newspaper. It is funny, too. Will likes how they change the letters to make new words.
Our special guest animal reporter, who will be writing our sports report, is called Phoenix the Flying Fox. He hangs upside down in a cage and he is wearing a school librarian’s badge. You will learn more about Phoenix very soon.
Best wishes,
Phoenix and 3DV Maths students

Hello rappers,
We are from Penrith Public School. We are the other 3DV Maths group. The first group are back in their room doing longs and shorts with Base Ten materials.
At our school we have “Across the Road”, which means that there’s a big patch of grass we can play on at Recess and Lunch. We have a small, portable library but it’s filled with knowledge! It is usually quiet for people to concentrate. We have a large play area and also the Passive Playground.
“The Shaggy Gully Times” is Naomi’s favourite shortlisted book because it is funny and has deliberate mistakes. The Olympic Games are being held in China on the 08/08/08. We are jealous of Binta because she is off to Beijing on Saturday for sixteen days!!! Binta will miss most of the book rap but she’s doing something almost better!
Mr McLean, our teacher-librarian, showed us how to use Google to find the rap blog! Now we can show our families at home each night as we do the rap.
Piplup the Penrith Puffin is our reporter mascot for our rap news articles. He has been in our library for many years and Mr McLean found him in a dusty corner. Piplup is glad to have found new friends who care about him.
See you next time!

Hi! This is 5/6D.
Our school is called Glenbrook Public School. We are located in the Lower Blue Mountains, 15 minutes away from Penrith in NSW. We are close to the National Park. Our teacher is Mr Down. We do sport activities such as: netball, Soccer, Tennis, Dancing, Softball, T-Ball, Neucomball and on Fridays is when we do sport. We also have athletics carnivals, Winmalee Cup, Swimming carnivals and cross country. Our canteen is open on Wednesday and Fridays. Scripture and our assemblies are also on Fridays.
We have 265 student from K-6 at our school. For our sports carnivals we have 3 houses; Evans(red), Parkes(blue) and Barton(Yellow). We used to have 4 but there wasn’t enough students so we had to take away a house which was called: Wentwoth. Our school uniform is Blue and Yellow. “Knowledge is power” is what it says on our jackets, hats and shirts. Our school is divided into 2 departments and at the infants it goes up from K-2 and in the primary it is 3-6. From our school windows we can see the native bush. We have water tanks to supply water. We learn a language which is Japanese. Our school has a veggie garden, it has lettuce, potatoes and fruit in it. We also have a compost bin.
Our Librarian is Mrs Kirk. She is really nice. We are a very lucky school to have laptops to go on in class. We are looking forward to learning about the Olympics.
Talk to you soon, From Glenbrook Public School, 5/6D.

Gday Everyone
We are 3-6 M from Lord Howe Island Central School. We are the only school on Lord Howe and we have 2 Primary classes and 4 Secondary students.
There are 36 students altogether in the school and our class has 22 kids from years 3,4,5 and 6. Our teachers name is Mr Morris and he is OK because he loves sport and he surfs.
Lord Howe is a World Heritage Site and our school is across the road from the beach and a beautiful lagoon surrounded by coral reefs.
We are all very healthy here because we mostly ride bikes to school or walk, we play lots of different sports, we have fruit break everyday and we are always outside. The speed limit for cars on the island is 25km/h and there aren’t many cars so we don’t have to worry about traffic.
The best thing about our school is that we don’t have to wear shoes to school. Our uniform is green and grey for boys and green checked dresses for girls.
We are looking forward to following all the Aussie athletes during the Olympics and we are going to mark all the other rapping schools on Google Earth so we can have a look at where everyone else lives.
Bye for now

G’day from 43M at Bega West PS
Desmond says hi to the Nowra rappers because he used to go to Nowra PS 2 years ago.
Mrs Keane, we reckon we might have a better view than you because we can see Mumbulla Mountain covered in a beautiful forest.
We had a great athletics carnival a couple of weeks ago and Waratah won.

Welcome new rappers from Penrith PS and Glenbrook PS which isn’t far away from Penrith. Hello 43H at Bega West PS and barrelriders from Lord Howe Island CS.
I did mention in an earlier post that all the rappers were on the coast. No longer…we now stretch from the Great Dividing Range, across the coast to an island, in the Pacific, which is still part of NSW. What an amazing state we live in!
Knowledge is power Glenbrook rappers and it is also a terrific school motto. Finding, discussing and sharing information will enable you to transform your learning into new knowledge that will stay with you forever.
Of course we know Bega cheese, it comes from contented Bega cows. Bega is a great place to buy a milkshake too.
Well, you have really stirred my curiosity 3DV Maths group X 2 from Penrith PS. You seem to have some animal reporters working for you. I’m now wondering if your editor is actually a wombat?
Enjoy the opening ceremony at Beijing.
Happy rapping,

Hello Rappers
We are from Glenroi Heights P.S. in Orange about 3 and 1/2 hours drive west of Orange. Although we probably don’t have to tell you that because most people notice Orange on the weather map each night and say “wow…look how cold it is in Orange”. Today we are searching for a promised top temperature of 8 degrees. It may snow tonight it is so cold and icy. We love the snow and thought we were lucky to wake up to a big snowfall on the first day of our last school holidays. The land around here is high with Mt Canobolas. just outside of the city, being a tall and extinct volcano. Mt Canobolas is often covered in snow in winter.
To keep fit we run around our school grounds at least twice each day. We have a Breakfast Program to make sure we have lots of energy to run, play and learn. Our school won the local school gardening competition and we are going to have a worm farm so that we don’t waste our food scraps and it will help the garden grow well.
We are looking forward to rapping with you all. We wish we could be like the woopirappers and the Many Village School and live right near the ocean. But, here we are in Orange, it is a beautiful city with four very different season. By the way we do not grow oranges in Orange, but we do grow apples and cherries.
Our children are learning to speak Wiradjuri this year and we have an amazing Aboriginal dance group.

Hello to the Bindicoots of Orange from Glenroi Heights PS. You may not have a beach nearby but I’m sure that our coastal rappers would love to wake up to snow covered ground one or two days in winter. If the barrelriders from Lord Howe Island decide to visit your school in winter, please remind them to pack their shoes!

Welcome Darcy Road rappers from 5/6E and 4D. I hope you enjoyed your sports carnival yesterday. Did anyone take photographs or videos of the carnival that you would like to share with the other rappers? Your teachers may have some ideas for this.
I was watching a sports report about the Boomers being narrowly defeated by the team from USA. Do you know which sport this was about? Have you noticed that the names of many Australian teams are associated with the names of our native animals? I can think of seven already and realise that some of the animal attributes would come in handy for the teams participating in games that require speed, high springing jumps, fast acceleration, etc.
I look forward to reading more introductions from schools near and far.

Hey everybody!
We are the first group from 3H Maths at Penrith Public School. Penrith is at the foot of the Blue Mountains. We are halfway between Katoomba and Sydney.
The Beijing Olympics make us get excited about sport. Luckily, our school has a new sandpit, and new surfaces on the old basketball court and tennis court. We are looking forward to playing on them very soon.
Matthew says “The Shaggy Gully Times” is a very funny book. Hamish likes the recipe for Bum Leaves. Six of us think it might win the gold medal for Book of the Year. Five of us think it might win a silver “Honour” medal.
We will be using technology to tell other people about our school. We will learn how to use a blog for the rap.
Our guest animal reporter is Tammy the Tortoise from Shaggy Gully. She even still has her fan tied to her shell. (We think she might have cheated last time she raced Walter Wabbit – see page 28.) She has come to Penrith to show the other animals which live in our library how to write newspaper articles. We will take a photo of Tammy for the Rap Gallery, maybe doing long jumps in our new sandpit.
Bye for now,

Hello schools around Australia and the world!
We are the second group from 3H Maths at Penrith Public School. We think Penrith PS is the best school in the world because we always go Forward with Pride. We encourage people to be friends with each other. We saw the NED Show last week and we like to say, “Never give up, Encourage others. Do your best”.
“The Shaggy Gully Times” is a funny book. We are looking forward to the Olympic Games starting on 08/08/08.
Harry the Hairy Bungee Spider is our guest animal reporter. He is good at bunjee jumping. Maybe he is also good at the Australian Crawl?

Hello Lord Howe Island,
We love to think of you way out in the ocean off Australia. Until now we did not know much about the island except that some people go there for a holiday. We love the idea of it being so hot that you dont have to wear shoes to school and it must be so quiet and peaceful without noisy cars rushing around.
We’re not sure how you would survive in Orange in our winter after all your sunshine.
Looking forward to hearing more from you

Hello fellow rappers
We are a class of 31 students with a fairly even split of Year 5 and Year 6 students. Ms Sullivan is our classroom teacher. Mrs Quinn is our librarian and we are studying the Olympics and the Book Week shortlisted books with her. This week we wrote a letter to the Olympian Jade Grant (football) to wish him luck during our library lesson.
Our school colours are red and green and our school motto is” Courtesy and Truth”. We are a very multicultural school and are proud to be so. Our school is in the Newcastle suburb of Lambton.
Last year we had the Pasha Bulker freighter stranded on Nobby’s Beach after the wild storm. It was a pretty awesome sight. We all went down to see it. We have fabulous beaches in Newcastle and our suburb has a great community spirit.

Our school is Lambton Public School. We are a class of 29 students with an even mix of Year 5 and year 6. Our teacher is Mrs Wood. We have a lot of sport at our school, like rugby, soccer, touch footy and softball. Our school encourages us to be environmentally friendly and we have a mostly bully free school.
Our teacher-librarian is Mrs Quinn and she is teaching us about using this rap. We haven’t blogged before but are looking forward to the experience.
Newcastle is a city on the coast about one and a half hours drive north of Sydney. We think we have a good combination of city and country life in Newcastle. There are great shopping malls and facilities as well as magnificent beaches and bush.

Hello,
We are Duranbah 5/6 from Duranbah Public School. There are about 40 children at our school and just 9 people in our 5/6 class. Our school is near to the NSW/Qld border, close to the sea and surrounded by bush and farmland. Our school emblem is a red ant.
We thought it was fun that the children from Lord Howe Island don’t have to wear shoes! There is a lot of red soil at our school which gets all over your shoes and clothes if you fall over, especially if it is wet. Our school has three interactive whiteboards so we think we are really lucky!
We have been recording many of the schools’ names on a rap sheet and look forward to writing a new rap point next week – we are going to take turns.

Hello
We are 3/4M from Lord Howe. There are 10 of us in Stage 2. We all have written something to tell you about life on Lord Howe Island.
We all know each other really well because there are only 350 people that live on Lord Howe Island.
We love playing sports but we don’t get to play many team sports because there aren’t any other teams to verse except playing against each other. We do play touch footy after school on Wednesdays with anyone who shows up and we do junior golf once a fortnight on a Sunday. We also do lots of swimming and surfing and fishing and snorkelling and scuba diving and we have a new table tennis table at school.
There isn’t any pool so we do all our swimming in the lagoon, even our swimming carnival.
We have markets once a month at school and they are on this week.
We love climbing trees and our Banyan trees have big long vines that we swing on.
Our school motto is ‘today for tomorrow’ and our school emblem is a palm tree with our two big mountains behind it. They are called Lidgbird and Gower and our 2 sporting houses are named after them.
We are 550kms from Port Macquarie and you have to fly on a Qantas Link plane from Sydney or Brisbane to get here.
Bye for now

Hi,
We’re 4J from Normanhurst Public School. There are around 270 pupils in our small school. We are a very lucky school because we have many opportunities like band, choir, dance group, green-team and swimming lessons. Every year on the last day of school we get to go to Dee Why beach. Next week we will be having our Athletics Carnival at Waitara Oval. Everyone is very excited. Today we will be starting Peer Support groups.
Our school has lovely green areas like our rainforest and we also have a bird aviary with budgies. We also have a soccer field and a netball court.
This is our first book rap, we can’t wait to learn more about the Olympics and The Shaggy Gully Times.
Regards,

Gday everyone we are 5/6M from Lord Howe. This is our first time blogging and we will all be typing something. This week most of our class has been sick and yesterday we only had 8 out of our 22 kids here in class.
Hi bindicoots, we thought we got a bit cold here but we moan when it gets lower than 16 degrees. We still don’t wear shoes though. Did you guys have fun in the snow? Any snowball fights? The best we can do here is sandball fights.
We will be following Alex Croak in the Olympics. She sent us a video interview of her answering all the questions our class asked her and it was on the BKzone website. She is on the Australian diving team and was a gymnast at the Sydney Olympics.
We got a new COLA this year and new basketball hoops. We have been playing basketball every recess and lunch and we have been playing a basketball round robin on Fridays for sport.
On Lord Howe we have a brown flightless bird called the Woodhen. It looks a bit like a Kiwi and it was almost extinct about 30 years ago. They are now found all over the island.
The island is about 12km long and 2.5km wide so it doesn’t take long to get anywhere even if youre walking or biking.
We have heaps of different birds on Lord Howe and tourists come here especially to see them and all the sea life around the coral reefs. Its really good fishing here too.
Our class is entering a comp where you have to guess who is going to win the gold medals at the Olympics. If you win you get a free trip to your nearest capital city and a boxing kangaroo flag signed by the Australian Olympic swimming team.
Catchya later

Hello and Oi! Oi! Oi! to Duranbah 5/6 rappers. You are lucky to have interactive whiteboards (IWBs). Are you using them to share the messages from other rappers? How on earth can you find those red ants in the red soil? Enjoy the rap.
Hello 3/4M at Lord Howe. Do you realise that some NSW primary schools have twice as many students as there are residents on your island! You certainly love water sports.
Hello 4J Npsrappers from Normanhurst. Your school may be small but you are certainly lucky to have so many opportunities. I can almost hear your choir singing a rousing song to cheer on the Aussie Olympians.
Hello 5/6M barrelriders from Lord Howe. I was thrilled to read that you have written to an Aussie Olympian and received a reply! I hope you will share this down the track.
The link to BKzone is on the Beijing Olympic Games and Book Week 2008 rap site. Why not check it out?

We are keenly looking forward to our local triathlon star Brad Kahlefeldt competing in the Olympics. He won Gold at the Commonwealth Games. We posted off our letter links to the athletes this week.
Activities our students are involved in are debating, choir, concert band and many PSSA sports. Our class does the Beep fitness test twice a term to measure how fit we are getting. One of our boys made 12.4.

Hi rappers,
We are students from 4/5M at Penrith Public School.
Penrith is between the city of Sydney and Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Penrith is a peaceful place with lots of green space. We are near Penrith Plaza, which is a huge shopping centre. The Penrith Public Library is part of the Plaza buildings and has just been renovated.
Our school library is much smaller than the public library, but it has lots of good books and some computers, games, photo albums and much more.
Laura says that “The Shaggy Gully Times” is a funny book/newspaper. Shehzil says the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is on tonight and sounds like it will be FANTASTIC!
Our sporting mascot/reporter for this rap is a large Chinese Dragon named Nian. Mr McLean hung him on the wall of the library last year but he used to live in a classroom several years ago. He has led several Chinese New Year parades at our school. Nian is going to be making a guest appearance in 3DV’s assembly item during the time of the rap.
Happy rapping rappers

It’s been fun reading about everyone else who is taking part – we didn’t know that there were so many different schools around the place – we would love to have a lagoon to swim in like they do on Lord Howe Island, we think the frog ponds at Lambton sound like fun. It seems everyone loves their sports just like we do.
We can’t wait to get started on this rap and will watch the Olympics over the weekend to “get in the mood”.

G’day!
We are from the best small school in the world – Carrington!!!! Our school only has three classes and we are the 3/4/5/6 class. Our teacher is Mr Metcalf and he is way cool. He loves sport, tells really bad jokes and can do cool magic tricks. Once he even brought his own jumping castle to school and set it up in the classroom!
Our other teachers are really nice also. We only have 60 kids at the school, so it is sort of like one big family.
We are really keen to start rapping. We have a school blog at carrington.edublogs.org so jump on and say hello. We are just starting on our student pages, so there’s not much there yet.
Hello Lambton, great to see another Novocastrian school rapping.

Hello from our class 5/6H,
Our school is Charlestown East P.S. which is located in Newcastle, NSW and you may know Newcastle from the Pasha Bulker hitting Nobby’s Beach about a year back now.
Some of the features in Newcastle, Other wise known as ‘NEWY’, we have awesome beaches that have the best offshore winds and break perfect for surfing. We have Lake Macquarie which is 3-4 times bigger than Sydney Harbour. It is great for fishing and we specialize in bream, tailor and flathead. We also have many shark sightings in our lake because our lake is connected to the ocean. You can also tube, wakeboard, water ski or barefoot ski.
Our Class is made up of two years. We have 16 year sixes in our class and 11 year fives and you could say we are a “VERY SOCIAL” class. We also have a wonderful teacher called Mrs. Hones.
At our school we are very privileged because we have a HUGE grass covered playground, to play in. We are also very lucky to be able to participate in sport events and galas, debating, public speaking, dance and star struck, choir and the list goes on and on. So we can practise our cricket skills, we have two cricket nets in our playground, as well as a hitting wall, for handball and a basketball/netball court. In the school grounds we have lots of trees with 20 buildings and 10 classes. Our school colours are blue and white and our school motto is ‘Achieve With Honour.’
We have never participated in a book rap, so we are really looking forward to this.

We are the Tingha rappers.
Ni hao. We are in year 5/6 which has seventeen kids. We have a teacher called Mrs Lennon who LOVES Diet Coke and hates spiders. Our classroom is very colourful. We are doing projects on China; we are also researching Olympic athletes. We have 8 computers in our classroom. This is the first time we have been involved in a book rap.
To celebrate our China unit we went to a Chinese restaurant in Inverell which is 25kms away. We had a great time trying to use chopsticks.
As part of our Olympics unit we have a learning matrix. We are also doing the ten-week healthy eating challenge called Kidz Bodz; it is sooo much fun. This week’s challenge is to eat two serves of seafood. We do P.E. every day. There are four pools in Tingha called Blue Lagoon, Tingha Pool, Vinnie’s Dam and Baby Dolls.
We also have two parks and lots of shops even though we live in a small town. We have a great theme park called Green Valley Farm which is about 9km out of Tingha. We live about 590km north of Sydney. We have a police station, RSL club, town hall and a lookout. We have a great community; all the kids get along.

Sorry this is late we have had many technical problems registering!!!
Hi, we’re the scurvy Palmers Pirates from Palmers Island.
Palmers Island is on the east coast of Aust. , on the far north coast of NSW, right on the Clarence River. Palmers Island is one of the largest Islands on the Clarence River system, which has over 100 islands. We are 10 min from Yamba and our surrounding paddocks are full of sugar cane or cows.
Our 5/6 class consists of 27 students. We have never done a book rap and will be working with Ms Hardaker, our librarian and science teacher on Tuesdays. There are 80 students, five teachers and six classrooms at our school.
There are many reasons why our school is special! At the end of Term 1 this year, we received 28 new desktop computers. These are great but we do get frustrated because many sites are blocked.
Every Friday during Term 3 we have SMASH, a program aimed at developing the physical skills of co-ordination, balance, flexibility and strength. Everyone enjoys it.
Every Wednesday we have Peer Support, where we, the leaders, take small groups of children through activities that develop social skills.
Whenever we go to lunch or recess there will always be a game of sport happening and anyone can join in. Our playground is awesome because we have a rock wall, flying fox, monkey bars etc…. and a large flat field with a cricket pitch
Well cya l8r guys

HVGS Stage 2 rappers say:
We are a Stage 2 class (3A) at Hunter Valley Grammar School at Maitland, in the beautiful Hunter Valley area inland from Newcastle, NSW. Our teacher is Mrs Liz Atkins. Our school caters for pre-school to Year 12 and has lots of space to play sport and our own wetlands area. It is nearly 20 years old and has grown a lot since it began in 1989.
The local area relies on coal, wine producing and tourism for our local economy. We are only 30 km from the beaches in Newcastle and Port Stephens. Maitland is an old heritage area and we have lots of history here.

Hi. We’re 5/6H from Telopea Public School in Sydney.
There are about 100 students in our whole school, so we only have four classes. We don’t mind being a small school, because everyone knows everyone, so it’s like one BIG family! Our principal, Mrs George, always says “It is a small school but with a big heart”
We have a really big place, with a huge grass area, separate equipment for Juniors and Seniors, a COLA, or Covered Outdoor Learning Area, and lots of gardens, which are unusually beautiful. We even have a special sensory garden for the Year 6s. Our athletics carnival is coming up, and we have been doing practice. There will be long jump, high jump, shot put, running, captain ball, tee ball, etc.
We have school cats, and one’s named Oscar, Susan’s favourite. He’s a white cat with black spots.
When the day starts all you hear is laughter and see people smiling most of the time. Seniors usually play sports, which puts our huge grass area in use, or go into the garden with a lot of birds and insects. The most popular played sports at our school is soccer, which is also one of our rap leader, Metin’s, fav. Next to our basketball court we have a huge mural with different names of the countries. The meaning of the mural is that every one’s equal.
As we said before, we are ‘A small school with a big heart’
Happy rapping!
From Susan, Metin and Jessica.

Hey Bookrappers,
This is 6M from Glenbrook Public School. Our teacher’s name is Mrs. Macky. Our Principal is Mr. D. Brown.
We live in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Our school was recently renewed and has new looks in classrooms. We all like to play Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, Football and Handball. We have sport every Friday the hour before recess if it’s not raining.
Our area has some wonderful National Parks. We also have a very historic bridge built by convicts and it’s called the Lennox Bridge. In our local area we have a public park, skatepark, three tennis courts, shops, an information centre and a beautiful lagoon. Our grade went on an awesome camp last year to a place called Broken Bay which is situated on the Hawkesbury River. Our school soccer team made it to the grand final of the State Knockout in Soccer.
Great to see so many school rappers.
From 6M of Glenbrook Public School.

Dear Fellow Rappers,
We are class 3W and we are looking forward to talking with you all about the rap points. Our class goes to the Hunter Valley Grammar School in Maitland. Our school is a Pre School to Year 12 school and we love learning and sharing together. Our friends in class 3A are also participating in the book raps.
We have started to learn about the Olympics and really enjoyed the jokes that were in “The Shaggy Gully Times”. Caitlin’s best joke is: How many eyes does a reindeer have?
Answer: No eye deer!!! ( very funny, Caitlin.)
Talk to you all soon,
Mr Wallace and 3W

Hi there Carrington rappers. Small schools do rock! I look forward to checking out your blog.
G’day Cambo Lads and Lasses from Cambridge Park P.S. and Tingharappers. KidzBodz sounds really interesting. I’m sure the other rappers will want to find out more.
Enjoy the Olympics and reading everyone’s comments. Now that the games are well and truly underway, it’s time to send your responses to Rap point 1.

Welcome to the rap:
* Glenhavensprinters from Glenhaven PS. You are lucky to be surrounded by lush native bushland.
* It’s great to have you on board Palmers Pirates from Palmer Island PS. You had problems getting started but persevered just like the Olympians. Well done!
It’s lucky that you don’t have scurvy. Many pirates suffered with this owing to their poor diets at sea. BTW, I like the sound of SMASH.
* 3R Olympians from Annandale PS. Studying the ancient Olympics is close to my heart. I was lucky enough to visit Olympia earlier this year. Check out the Gallery. Your vegetable garden is a healthy idea.
* 5/6H from Charlestown East PS. So much land, so much room for exercise!
* 4/5D from Colyton PS. I’m sure that you are sharing some laughs while enjoying The Shaggy Gully Times.
* HGVS Stage 2 rappers at Hunter Valley Grammar School. You are already news reporters and editors, so Rap point 3 should be a breeze.
* 5/6H from Telopea Public School. Your school sounds so inviting. I’m so lucky to have already visited and I know your teacher librarian very well. Hi Mrs Imison.
* 6M of Glenbrook PS. Soccer stars and heritage sites – what a great environment.
* 3W from Hunter Valley Grammar School. I’m sure you are going to have fun reading The Shaggy Gully Times.
* 3/4SG from Mowbray PS. It seems that small schools have big hearts and big personalities. You have a lot in common with Telopea PS.
I’ve now lost count! There are so many rappers – IT’S FANTASTIC! Welcome everyone. As there are so many of you, please remember to sign off with your school name so that we know who is sharing marvellous moments and creative comments.
Continue rapping happily,
Mrs Keane, Rap Coordinator at Ryde

St. Peters Kids welcome you from all over the world!
We come from St. Peters Public School and our group name is St Peters Kids.
In our school there are 1000 kids (we wish!). We only have 53 kids! In our class we have 18 kids! Seven Year 4s, five Year 5 and six Year 6s. Our school is in the inner city of Sydney, NSW.
We are looking forward to our athletics carnival tomorrow, with high jump, discus, shot put and javelin. Lots of schools don’t do javelin but our school is special because we use foam javelin. Most of our events are very Olympic like.
In our school we have lots of excursions and lots of them for free! Some like bus excursions for safety rules and some we go to the theatre. Soon we are going to a theatre in Parramatta to watch a show called “I am Jack”.
Our school is great at music. Every year we go to the Opera House to play the Recorder and this year we went to the Seymour Centre for Bin Bands Dance and Choir.
For book week we are reading a book called “The Shaggy Gully Times” Our class thought it was going to be a baby book but we were utterly wrong! Its g-g-g-reat!
Happy rapping

A huge welcome from everyone to:
* St Peters Kids from St Peters PS. You have chosen a day with fantastic weather for your athletics carnival. I hope you have some photos for us, especially with your foam javelins.
* 5M from Kinross Wolaroi PS. I’d rather be playing in the snow than using a computer indoors – you are lucky.
* 4-5-6M from Darcy Road Public School. Melinda Gainsford-Taylor has had a wonderful career in athletics and has been an excellent ambassador for Australian sport.
Fuel your mind! (as well as your body). Enjoy Book Week.
