MOWBRAY PSSA
By: Christian and Ben - 6G
Mowbray does PSSA every year for Years 5 and 6. There’s PSSA Netball or PSSA Soccer but, in our opinion, soccer is better than netball.
Mostly, the soccer team loses but sometimes we win a few games. The netballers don’t win as much as we do. There are two teams in the soccer the A’s and the Bumblebees (everyone calls the B’s the bumblebees). In the netball there is a Year 5 and a Year 6 team.
We have had funny games in the past, such as a boy called Cabin lying on the ground laughing his head off in the middle of the soccer game. We’ve had many home games and some away from school too. Most of our away from school games had to be cancelled because of heavy rain.
We’ve only got a couple of matches left in the season. Everyone who participates in PSSA enjoys the games and we highly recommend it.
Taa taa for now.
Cheers,
Christian and Ben

Hi everyone,
Does Snake Wrangling count as a sport? One of our Stage 2 students just wrote this unique piece of writing about snakes. It sounds like something one might read in “The Shaggy Gully Times”.
ALL ABOUT SNAKES IN THE WORLD
Dedicated to the memory of Steve Irwin
Corn Snake
One of my favourite kinds of snakes is the corn snake. Corn snakes are better when they are babies. You can feed them pinkies. These are mice. The frozen pinkies are put into hot water. When they are in the hot water, the water melts the ice off it. Carefully take it out of the cup then place it where the snake’s mouth is. Then wash your hands after. When you come back out it will be eating the pinkie then when it goes down it goes down very slowly, as slow as a snail. Now let’s get going to another snake…
Red Belly Black Snake
The red belly black snake is very venomous. It eats frogs, rats, mice and other small things like twig snakes and green tree snakes.
I am going to tell you a story about a red belly black snake and my cousin. My cousin was only one year old. He was riding his little push bike but then he was riding over a red belly black snake. Luckily it had a frog in its mouth. His Pop ran over there with a shovel and hit it. Not recommended! Now let’s get going on a new kind of snake…
Viper
The viper is as long as a bus: five metres long. When they are born they are 30cm long, as long as a 30cm ruler. They eat other snakes like baby anacondas and baby vipers. The mum or dad think they are strong snakes then the mother eats the babies they had. But the late ones survive. When the mother and dad come back they are gone. They have run away or something has taken them. When you reckon that’s great then wait for the next one. It is even better than that one. Let’s get going to another snake…
Anaconda
The anaconda is the deadliest snake in the world. 2,000 people die in one year. Think in your whole life how many people die; then 2,000,000 people die. So did you know that lizards eat peas? But that’s it for that one.

OLYMPIC POLEVAULT
By:Charlie and Matthew 5S
Yo Rappers!
Did you see the polevault in the Olympics this year? Our very own Matthew Hooker, with a jump of 10m exactly, went and won a gold medal!
Then he went and kept jumping for the Olympic Record……… and made it!!! How cool is that? Then when he got back with all the other Olympians there was a parade for them. There were interviews, autograph signing and they got reunited with their loved ones. They’ll be needing the sleep and not being forced to train at the crack of dawn.
TTFN:ta ta for now!

CLEVER KALLIE CAN DO IT!
by Lily, Sarah and Kallie of 3DV Maths at Penrith PS, as reported to Phoenix the Flying Fox
This is Phoenix and I’m here with Kallie, one of the athletes from Penrith Public School’s recent Athletics Carnival. Let’s hear what she did on the big day!
“Well,” Kallie said, “I went in events all day but I didn’t perform very well. There were lots of kids and they were too hard to beat. Maybe I was saving my energy for the last event: the 200 metres running race.”
How did she go?
“I came fifth,” replied Kallie, looking very proud of herself.
Wow! She did try hard.
Look out Penrith students. Kallie will be hard to defeat next year.

by Monique and Christina of 3DV Maths at Penrith PS, as reported to Piplup the Puffin
This is Piplup Puffin, reporting from Penrith Pool.
Ladies and gentlemen, you should have seen the action at Penrith Pool in Term One when Penrith PS students, Monique and her friend, Tamara, were in the 50 metres race. It was Penrith’s swimming carnival. Monique won by just two seconds.
“I could not believe it,” Monique said, “I had made it to District!”
Monique said that it was very exciting competing against her best friend.
“It was great to swim well. Swimming is fun, and it keeps you active.”

This is Phoenix, reporting on the recent Penrith Public School 800 Metres Carnival.
Riley, James, Tapiwa and Jeremy were all lined up at the starting line of the annual 800 metres Junior Boys’ running race. Mr E shot the starting pistol and suddenly Brock shot off like a silver bullet.
The other boys tried to catch him but Brock was unbeatable!
Yes, indeed, Brock rocks!

TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ASSEMBLE FOR INDOOR SOCCER
by Naomi and Zohra of 3DV Maths at Penrith PS, as reported to Piplup the Penrith Puffin
Piplup here!
Recently, at Big Lunch, the Penrith Public School teachers challenged a team of Stage 2 students to a game of indoor soccer. The venue was Penrith Public School’s assembly hall.
The children in the audience came into the hall, the game started and people were screaming and cheering.
The student team scored a goal, then the teachers scored a goal. Then the students. Then the teachers, and so on…
We thought the teachers’ team was going to win because they had bigger brains and bigger feet. Every year the teachers win, but this year the kids won! We couldn’t believe it. The score was wonderful: it was 4 to 3. Thank you guys!
“Wow! The students were finally smarter at something,” said Zohra and Naomi.
Piplup asked the losing teachers, “Despite your loss to the students, who do you think was the best player on your team?”
“We think Mr Ward was,” they said, “Because he is good at sport.”

LIGHTNING BOLT HITS BIRD’S NEST!
by Cecelia, Nandita and Binta of 3DV Maths at Penrith PS, as reported to Phoenix the Flying Fox
This is Phoenix, reporting on Binta’s recent trip to the Beijing Olympic Games. She brings us a bird’s eye view from Bird’s Nest Stadium!
In China that day, the weather was very damp and hot. Binta was fortunate enough to watch Usain Bolt in the 100 metre sprint. There were three very tall Jamaicans (Bolt and two others) in the race.
Binta watched the tiny figures on the running track but, when they were too far away, she watched the closeups on the big TV screens. She couldn’t believe her eyes when Bolt won the race with a world record! An amazing time: 9.69 seconds!
After the race, Binta ended up only one metre away from Usain Bolt and she could see his gold medal around his neck.
And how was Beijing?
“China had a very different smell to Australia,” Binta added. “It was amazing and the food was very different; things like fried geese and pig’s head.”
Binta also climbed the Great Wall of China, and sent back a postcard. (See the Gallery.)

Hi fellow rappers,
Here is our sports article for a newspaper.
Annual Athletics Carnival
Manly Village Public School held their annual Athletics Carnival on August 7th at Manly Oval. We had lots of stars in our class.
After the 100m girls final, Isabel said, “I could have won the race if I didn’t stop to polish my nails”.
Charlotte came 4th in the 100 m. She said, “If only I knew how to tie my shoe laces, I might not have tripped and I could have done better! One day I should learn.”
Nina commented, “I could have done better in the spotput, oops…. shotput if I wasn’t distracted by a passing dog!”
Megan was daydreaming as usual. If only she hadn’t worn her slippers, she might have won the highjump.
Callum was winning the 200m heat, but he stopped to pick up the money that fell out of his pocket and he was just beaten.
“Once again, Manly Village proved how courageous we are. Rain, hail or lightning could not stop our carnival (except for the cry babies who ran for shelter and went home with their mummies!)”
We are looking forward to reading your reports…
Ciao…

Hi as you know Mowbray Public School is very sporty.
On the eighth of August we had an Olympic Walkathon.
We walked 10 laps of the school grounds. We got sponsors to earn money that goes towards the school. Depending on the amount of money we raise we get prizes. Anyway during the walkathon we all got good exercise and a great day out in the sun.
We also got sushi and saw a badminton show. Mr and Mrs Latto even invited some of the kids to join in and have some fun too. So in the end the walkathon was a big success. We all loved it!

Hello rappers
The variety of sports reports is terrific.
Mowbray Public School rappers have shared their athletics and swimming carnivals as well as their PSSA activities. It’s obvious that these rappers enjoy their sport and participate in healthy, active lifestyles. Fancy having Matthew Hooker as an ex-student - his gold winning and record breaking vaults were fantastic to watch. He spoke so well during his interviews - he is an inspiration.
Penrith Public School rappers - you have so many reporters on the spot, the film crew must be racing to keep up with them. BTW, congratulations to the student soccer team.
Great sports report Manly Village Rappers. You have captured and adapted the humour found in The Shaggy Gully Times.
Looking forward to reading more sports articles.

Hi Rappers,
3456E have not finished their Sports News Reports yet but we will send them through as they are finished. We decided to write a report about Sports News for John Palmer Public School and these are the ideas we came up with:
Sonya and Roshan are writing about our swimming carnival.
Vincent and Dean are writing about our athletics carnival.
Jessie and Roberta are writing about after school sports.
Bahram and Bismark are writing about our cross country.
Chris and Mark are writing about playing handball - (The Championships!). We love handball at JPPS.
Kasey and Emerson are writing about the zone and area carnivals.
Keiasha and Selina are writing about swim school.
We enjoyed reading “The Mowbray Swimming Carnival” beacuse it seems like they love their swimming and Penrith’s “Clever Kallie Can Do It” because it was like an interview. Manly Rappers had a very detailed and thorough report! That was really good guys!
Rap with you soon again,

CLOWNING AROUND
by Naedean, Rachael and Naeem of 4W @ Penrith PS, as told to Selby the Talking Dog
Selby here, live from Penrith Public School! I’m very confused. A peculiar sporting event is underway at this school and I do not understand the rules.
Lots of people are dressed as clowns, and others are dressed as bumblebees. They look like they are going to sing. Sing or sting? Unfortunately, now I am scared that the bumblebees want to sting me on the buttocks.
The clowns are trying to juggle with footballs and eat hotdogs at the same time. So far, not a single hotdog has been successfully eaten. The fairies are all buying small objects from the bumblebees. What a confusing sport….
Oh, it’s the annual Penrith PS Pedlars’ Parade! Silly me.
This is Selby signing off.

Our Lady of Lourdes Mini Olympics Spectacular!
By: The Tarro Terrors
4 September 2008: The Olympics began after a speedy dash to the Beresfield Oval by 250 excited participants!
The innovative swimming on skateboards was the first event to be undertaken. The Year 5 students swam their way to victory losing some skin off their palms on the way. The victory was worth the pain for “no pain, no gain”.
Unfortunately the previous Olympic basketball champions, the Rockettes, were away at a netball gala day, so the Year 5 students shot their way to victory.
The dreaded javelin allowed Year 3 to throw their way to victory with an unbelievable 8.2 m throw!
Year 4 showed their prowess with the discus by completely demolishing all other participants.
The Wiggles and Hi 5 experiences of the Kindy Kids resulted in a win for the youngest in the rhythmic gymnastics!
After one hour of sweat, pain, blood and tears, a very tired group shuffled back to Our Lady of Lourdes and collapsed into their chairs. Year 5 may have dominated at this year’s event, but Year 1 are already planning to take the Gold in 2012.

SUPER BLAKE AT THE DISTRICT CARNIVAL
by SCHC of Penrith PS, as told to Phil the Green and Golden Bell Frog.
Thursday, 4th September 2008: Yesterday, Blake of SCHC represented this school, Penrith PS, at the District Athletics Carnival.
Phil the Frog asked Blake to tell his story for The Shaggy Penrith Times.
“First I went in the long jump,” said Blake. “Some people did silly jumps and they fell in the sand. I did a very long jump and I came fourth.
“Next was the 100 metres running race. We had to run straight. I tried really hard but I came… fourth!
“Finally, it was the 200 metres running race. Some of the other boys were very tall. They have much bigger muscles. I ran really hard but this time I came… fifth!”
Phil the Frog reckons that if Blake put more gel in his hair he would be a little bit taller, and maybe he could jump further. A frog could teach him a lot of secrets about jumping.
We are still very proud of Blake for his efforts at the District Carnival. Blake is our hero. A super hero.

Hello rappers heres some news articles we’ve written
The Giant Walk
Last Monday Australia tried to break the record for the most people walking 1km at the same time. WA had the record in 2001 but Canada got the record in 2007.
The L.H.I.C.S’s SRC had made a track and measured the distance on Google Earth. nfortunately it was rainy so we couldn’t walk the track. We walked 11 laps around the school instead. In total 37 people from our school did the walk.
We’re still waiting to hear whether or not we broke the record. But I hope we did.

Basketball’s in the Basket
Every Thursday for the next 4 weeks our schools principal will be holding two 30 minute games of basketball. The first game which will start at 3.00 and go to 3.30 will have teams of 7. The second game which will start at 3.30 and go to 4.00 has the other 2 teams. At the end of 3 rounds we will have a playoff to decide 1st to 4th.
Today our school will start the comp. Here on Lord Howe no one wears shoes but at basketball everybody that goes has to because of all the injuries.
I’m in the red team and I think we will do well.

Hello,
Here are some news articles written by 5/6M. The first article was published on the BK Zone website.
Lord Howe Island Olympic Day
For Olympic Day at Lord Howe Island Central School we had 6 different groups representing 6 different countries. There was Argentina, Canada, South Africa, Estonia, U S A and Thailand.
We started our day by listening to an interview with Alex Croak, the Australian Olympic diver, which was really interesting and it was great to hear her answering our questions. Then we organised our groups for the march in and oral presentation about our countries. Both went really well and the groups did a great job.
One of the highlights of the day was our torch relay. The K-2’s ran and passed the torch to each other and then lit a cauldron. It was very effective and they even made their own torches for it. Next we got to have all these different activities which included long leap off a trampoline, gymnastics, water world, marathon, obstacle course and our own version of hammer throw.
Everyone had heaps of fun and we were all ready for a great chinese lunch which tasted delicious. In the afternoon we got to have a world cup soccer. Each country versed each other once, then we had a final, it was USA versus Canada. Canada had a victorious win and evryone enjoyed it a lot.
Just before we went home we had a presentation, we even got medals. USA won, Canada came second and Thailand came third. Our Olympic Day was the best ever and enjoyed by everyone.

Lord Howe Island’s Cross Country Carnival
Last term our school L.H.I.C.S held our cross country carnival I (Matt) had to VS Stephen.
I found it very hard to run to my best ability because the conditions were not favourable it was raining quite hard hand there was solid head wind.
Mine and Stephens race was last to start. Stephen got out to an early lead he was able to maintain his lead for approximately one quarter of the race but I managed to the lead back. We stayed together for about one kilometre than I finally started to pull away slowly from Stephen. I was able to maintain my lead to the finish and I ended up winning but not by a comfortable margin.
At the start of the race when Stephen got in front I thought the race was all over but I stuck with it and caught Stephen.

~LHICS Olympic Day~
At the end of term 2 Lord Howe Island Central School (LHICS) students ran an Olympic day for gold day.
We got put into countries and they were South Africa, Argentina, U.S.A., Canada, Thailand and Estonia. We had to do lots of activities in these teams like the real Olympics in Beijing, China.
The events were: Opening ceremony, soccer, Torch relay, water game, egg and spoon race, gymnastics, the long leap, flag making, an oral presentation and marching.
When we had finished LHICS Olympic day we gave out the medals. First prize went to U.S.A. Second prize went to Canada and the third prize went to Thailand!
It was the best gold day ever!

LHLCS Athletics Carnival
In two weeks Lord Howe Island Central School (LHICS) are going to have an Athletics carnival. For sport this week we have been training for the high jump, discus and running. This week we will practise the other sports.
First we will march over to the oval in our house groups (Lidgbird and Gower). Then we will do the 100m running. After that we will do the 75m running. Next we do sports like high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin and discus.
I hope Gower will win the athletics carnival.

Cross Country Carnival L.H.I.C.S
At the end of term three students from Lord Howe Island Central School went over the road to have our cross country carnival. As we were going over it started to rain but the carnival still went on.
After everyone got there the Kindergartens started their race. The course followed the lagoon beach and foreshore, over the sand dunes and along a grassy track. Next went the year ones’ and the year twos’ and so on. After everyone had finished we had the ceremony to say who came first and who was runner up. Then they said which house won the carnival, Gower or Lidgbird. Gower one by one point.
After the ceremony was finished everybody went home and was proud of how they did. I think the carnival was fun and I was happy that it rained.

Athletics Carnival for L.H.I.C.S.
In two weeks from Friday the students of Lord Howe Island Central School (L.H.I.C.S.) will be having their Athletics Carnival. We have started our training already which we do at sports on Friday and at fitness on Monday and Wednesday.
We have two houses, Lidgbird and Gower (which are named after the two mountains at the southern end of the island) that compete against each other for the cup. First we have the marching competition and whoever wins that usually loses the main events. We have a different person on the island each year to be the judge. Once that’s done we move on to the other sports. We do it in rotations of our age groups.
We do long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin, discus, ball games like tunnel ball and of course all the running races. I’d say I like high jump the best. Most people at this school are good at running. Others are good at the other sports. But the actual carnival is still a while away.
Right now everyone is training and doing their best to try and get champion in their group. I’m surprised how emotional it gets! Hopefully it will be a nice day this year. Either way I’m sure everyone will do their best, like always.

Cross Country Carnival at Nowra Public School
A few months ago there was a cross country race at Nowra Public School. The Magpies were against the Robins. The Eagles and Kingfishers were flying around to watch the race. The principal said “Ready, set, macaroni.”
They started running down the track. The track was muddy and grassy. The Magpies fell over in a pile of ooze. The Robins started laughing at the crusty Magpies. As they were laughing they ran into a tree.
Before they could recover, the muddy Magpies sprinted passed the crumpled Robins. Just before the end…

Rhinos versus Mice
Reporter: Seaon the Seahorse
In Mouseville on Saturday night, the Rhinos versus the Mice to see which team would be the cheespion (champion) team. The game started with the Mice screaming and the Rhinos roaring over the tiny voices of the poor little mice.
The Rhinos began the match with the ball. Micky Mouse, the fastest player on the team, zoomed to get the ball off Ricky Rhino but Billy Rhino blocked him. He trod on his tail ‘Ouch!’ Minnie mouse ran under Billy’s legs and scared the Rhino who ran around the field screaming!
Kicky Mouse being the trickster he is zoomed out of the field so the anirees (referees) couldn’t see him leave. He went to the canteen and filled a football full of cheese but forgot to put a whole in it so that he could remember that it wasn’t the real football and not play with it.
Whilst he was in the canteen the Rhinos had scored three points, so he grabbed the ball and went back to the field because he was worried about his team.
Micky didn’t realise until his hands sank into the cheesy ball. The cheeseball slipped out of his hands. The wind blew it over to Tony the Rhino who now had the ball. Cheese went all over him. The ball slipped out of his hand, rolled on the grass and the cheese was gone. Mickey grabbed the real ball. He helped score for (4) cries.
The first one was by Kicky going over the line. The second one was Blinky kicking it over the goal posts and the third and fourth points were by Nickey going over the line again.
The Chrinos tried as hard as they could but it was too late. The referee blue the blew whistle. The game was a blow over for the Rhinos and finally over for the mice, the cheespions.
Will these two teams be meat or meet again in another match of the year?

Chris & Mark Reporting
3456E are taking on Chris in a fatal handicap match. They are challenging him on the handball squares everyday.
Chris started off the challenge for ace. He managed to retain it as he got it past half of the class. He got a bit of a challenge when Mark and Vince made a good combination. Halfway through the match there was only Mark and Roberta left. Chris managed to get Roberta out and Mark did an unlucky full and that was it.
It was a very close match and people that think girls can’t play handball are wrong! Everyone can learn from this match.

Emerson and Kasey reporting our exciting Zone Carnival
At the Athletics Zone Carnival, the successful contestants ran with great momentum and Emerson, Chris, Vincent and Mark participated in long jump. Emerson came 2nd in the 200m while she also came 4th for the 400m. Roberta came 4th in the 200m and the 100m. Emerson also came 2nd in long jump and made it into Area, Whooo!
Chris ran first in our first race of the day, the 800m and did his best with a lot of momentum. Emerson competed in the 800m and came 2nd last. After 800m, Emerson went in the 200m and fortunately came 2nd which is extremely difficult to achieve. Emerson also ran in the 100m and came 3rd. She also came second in long jump. Chris, Vincent and Mark all competed in long jump but unfortunately, Chris missed out by 2cm.
Kasey/All of our runners ran excellently.
Emerson-I think that we all have very good sporty people in the school. As being a new school, John Palmer PS has really been successful, going to all of the zones/athletics/cross country/swimming and the Area Athletics.

Most of the kids in John Palmer kids have gone to the Carlisle Swimming Centre at Norwest. It started on 1st of September . for 2 weeks everyday from Monday to Friday. The other 7 students stay at school and learn about Water Safety.
On the first day of Swim School the teachers asked us to get into the pool and do freestyle, back stroke and butterfly stroke so we can be sorted out into groups. We learnt how to kick board and play a game called Blue/Light, Green/Light, Red/Light. We learnt a lot of things about water safety.
All the activities at Swim School were energetic. It helps your body to stay healthy. But the best thing is that we had lots of fun!!
Byes for now,

Hello rappers!
NOT BAD APPLES
Reported by Tammy the Tortoise and 3H Maths students at Penrith PS
Tammy Tortoise here, with all the juice on my biggest fan. Yes, it’s strapped to my back!
Actually, I’m the biggest fan about someone else: former Olympian, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor. who visited Penrith Public School last Friday.
Melinda talked about Little Athletics. She told us how she learned to run faster. You must move your arms as fast as you can. The faster your arms go, the faster your legs will go. Keep your head straight. Don’t show off. Pretend you have an apple on your head.
The students enjoyed seeing Melinda’s Olympic Relay Torch from Sydney 2000, her running uniforms, and some of her photos and medals.
If you want to be like Melissa, join Little Athletics. Eat healthy food. Remember, an apple (on your head) every day keeps the doctor away.

TYRED OUT AT CAR RALLY
Reported by Harry the Hairy Bunjee Spider with help from 3H Maths students at Penrith PS
Hairy Harry here, live from the huge Cystic Fibrosis Car Rally - “Penrith to Barossa Valley 2008″ - here at Penrith Public School.
Loud noises, beeping horns, spraying water, coloured balls, waving bears, colourful clowns, 55 cars, 410 cheering children, banners and streamers! That was the scene in Penrith today.
Two clowns in funny hooped pants (with braces) picked some volunteers to show that children with cystic fibrosis are not able to take a big breath. The volunteers had to blow up a balloon and then try to take one more breath. They really showed how hard it is for people with cystic fibrosis to breathe. When they are teenagers they will have to take lots of tablets to survive.
This article took me a long time to write. I’m so out of breath! Imagine if I was able to write with all eight legs at once.

The Cross Country
All the students, teachers, parents and Mr Jim participated in their very first Cross Country at John Palmer PS last term, Term 2 2008. Mr Jim with some seniors, helped set everything up for the Cross Country.
There were 2 categories, juniors and seniors. The juniors had to do 2 laps around the school oval and the seniors had to do 2 kms which is 2 laps around the whole school grounds. The school grounds are pretty big and the students were really tired. There wasn’t really any winners and no one made it any further but Bismark came 2nd in the seniors.
The JPPS Cross Country was great fun for all the students, parent and teachers!!

65 ROSES for CYSTIC FIBROSIS
Reported by Nian the Chinese dragon with Rachel, Kenisha and the two Natalies of 4/5M
On Monday, children at Penrith Public School were waving off 55 cars starting their annual car rally. It was a fundraiser for people with cystic fibrosis. The cars will be driving all the way to Adelaide, travelling along the Great Ocean Road to the Barossa Valley.
The children had made wrist bands with crepe paper and some classes made posters. There were newspaper reporters and photographers from all the local press, including the animal reporters from “The Shaggy Penrith Times”.
Four decorated cars came into the school playground. The drivers told us about cystic fibrosis. The parade outside our school was more exciting than the Beijing Olympics - because we were right there! Kenisha liked the gunshot noises and the big teddy bear. Rachel liked the two clowns. The Natalies liked all of it!
“65 roses” comes from a child who couldn’t pronounce “cystic fibrosis” and so 65 roses are a symbol for the condition.

LITTLE GAINSFORD, BIG GAINS
Reported by Nian the Chinese dragon with Jacob and Zach, 4/5M
Last Friday, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, former Australian Olympian, came to our school to talk about Little Athletics.
Little Athletics is when young people come to do sports like high jump, running, shot put and javelin. Melinda has been doing athletics ever since she was a little Gainsford. Jacob’s favourite activity is high jump. Zach’s favourite is running.
Lots of people think that doing athletics is really, really fun, but dragons think that it’s boring. At least when I turn up, roaring loudly and breathing fire, it makes the little athletes run faster.

CLOWN TASTES FUNNY
Reported by Nian the Chinese dragon with Ravitesh, Laura, Shehzil and Quayde of 4/5M
On Monday, there was a car rally for 55 cars involved in fundraising for cystic fibrosis. Children at Penrith Public School had made wrist bands for the car rally. The cars will drive from Penrith to Adelaide.
Laura’s favourite car had a big rose on the top. Shehzil’s favourite was the clown car. Mr McLean’s favourite was the Batmobile. Rav and Quayde liked the big black car from New Zealand with kiwis on it. It made a loud bang as it passed.
Being a dragon, I really wanted to eat Bubbles the clown, but I thought she’d taste funny.

Hi! We’ve been enjoying reading everyone’s newpaper articles and this week we are going to create our own class newspaper which we’re really looking forward to. Here is our first article:
HARRY HAS HEART!
On Monday after a hard day’s work 4/3B and Mrs DeJager went to Manly West oval to play an exuberant and exhausting game of kickball.
When 4/3B got down to the patchy dusty oval Mrs DeJager worked out two teams and then they were ready to play.
There were some great kicks! Barney booted a magnificent kick that flew over heads to the cricket nets. Patrick also smashed the ball as far as the eye could see, both boys scoring a home run.
Sadly, Patrick got called off the field for bad sportsmanship. He was devastated and said, “I felt like crying”, he also lost a point for his team. Luckily he was able to become a cheer leader instead. The score was now 3-2.
At the end of the match Harry saved his team with a huge kick which zoomed across the oval and slowly rolled to a gentle stop down the ditch. Euan and Barney ran after the ball while Harry ran around the bases and got a home run.
The score ended up three a piece, thanks to Harry’s huge heart.

The Duel in the Pool
by Silly Names
The two famous swimmers I.M. Speedy and U.R. Slow were in lanes 4 and 5. They both did an unusual belly flop into the pool and started swimming. They were coming dead last until U. Win slowed down because his googles fell off. There were now five people in front of them.
Suddenly I. Lose slowed down because his leg fell off. Just after that Icant Swim slowed down because he swam into the lane rope and broke his arm. A split second later I.M. Slow drowned after someone threw a ball from the crowd. The three other swimmers heard the groan from the crowd and looked up at the screen, but I.M. Speedy and U.R. Slow kept on swimming.
There were only ten metres left and it was a tie for first and no-one else finished the race. At the end of the day , it was a sad day for the lifeguards.
The Goats Versus the Pelicans!!
The Game that Changed our Lives!
From I.C. Zeball
As the Pelicans and Goats ran up and down the court bouncing the ball, the competitive Goats used their milk for energy. The Pelicans were far behind on the scoreboard. The Goats were spilling milk on the court everywhere by this time and tomatoes were splattered in their faces by the audience! The audience and the Pelicans laughed. Hen farms were disturbing the stadium as they were just aound the corner.
Nothing was going to stop the Goat’s best player Iam Better. He went for a perfect shot. YES!!!! The cheerleaders started shaking their pompoms and their pyramid was dreadful, but who cares, they scored. The camel in the audience was so happy that his humps burst and he now looks like a horse!
The Pelicans were so upset, but know they will win next time against the fish! No they are not going to shake hands at the end of the game. Mainly because they don’t have any! That’s the end of this week’s sport that changed our lives!!!!!

Cool in the Pool
by Gus M & Matt P
In the first week of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games history was made by Michael P. Helps winning eight gold medals in the pool.
It was an outstanding performance, but there was much controversy on his seventh attempt, winning gold by three hundredths of a second. Many disagreed with this result saying he won silver, but they were proved wrong by Beijing’s technology.
Helps also smashed five world records and one hundred years of Olympic history — his performance was simply stunning!
Millions of people around the world watched Helps do his thing in the pool.
Mitcham Strives for Gold!
By Bethany R and Emma L
On Saturday 23rd August 2008, Australian diver, Matthew Mitcham competed in the men’s final for the 10m platform diving at the Beijing Olympic Games.
At only twenty, Mitcham did extremely well to win Aussie gold at his first Olympic Games. Mitcham also broke an eighty year old record for the highest score ever scored for a dive.
At the end of the third round Mitcham was coming in fourth place behind the two Chinese divers and Australian diver Matthew Helm. Then in the fourth round Matthew Mitcham gave the judges a great surprise and gained himself second place. In the fifth round he stayed in second place and in the last round he surprisingly gained first and won Aussie gold.
Fellow Australian Matthew Helm finished sixth with a score of 467.10 and Mitcham’s score was 537.95.
All Australians are extremely proud of Mitcham and as many say “Well done Mitcham, keep up the good work!”

Athletics Carnival: Big Hit!
By The Fullysickids
On the 7th of August, the day before the Olympic Games, Blaxcell Street Public School held their Athletics Carnival at Homebush Warm-Up Arena.
The events were the 100m sprint, 200m and 800m running races. There was also shot put, high jump and long jump. K-2 participated in novelty events like the lolly and spoon race, sack race, thong toss, dances and the 100m sprint.
Classes 3H and 3M thought it was an exciting day because they participated in lots of different events. Their favourite event of the day was the high jump because they got to jump over the bar and land of the big spongy mat. It was hectic!
“We were very lucky with the weather as it was such a beautiful day. Also it was the best student participation at any athletics carnival that Blaxcell Street has ever had,” said Mrs Bradley, school principal. “It was just a shame that nobody was there to see me win the teachers’ race.” Mrs Bradley was the only teacher in that race.
The athletics carnival was a great chance for everyone at Blaxcell Street Public School to get fit and have fun. Congratulations to everyone who competed and tried their best and especially to the winning house group Mulgara.

Well done Normorappers and The Fullysickids from Blaxcell Street Public School. The sports reports about Michael P. Helps (very p[f]unny) and Matthew Mitcham are well structured and informative. Thank you.
The Blaxcell Street Public School athletics carnival must have been an exciting day. After reading your article, I almost felt that I was present. Interviewing the school principal is a great idea and an effective piece of journalism.
Great effort!

An unordinary mythical game of Notball
Reporters: Dragon Breath
On Saturday night the game was played at the Hogcawts Notball arena. No stourt lights were needed because the Pegasus Unicorns had their own (on their horns). The opposing team were The Griffens (for those who don’t know they are half eagle, half lion).
The Pegasus team had no trouble carrying the ball to the goal end with the ball stuck on their horns. S(p)oon they had spored 7 goals with 12 notballs replaced because they were popped. The Griffens were not seen flapping their wings after each goal. Shame, not good sports!!
The Pegasus team were so discus-tarded that they switched off their lights and went home.
Great game by the Pegasus team. We can’t wait until the rematch.

4T Chomps versus the ARL coaches
Every Tuesday Nat and Trent, who are two ARL coaches from the Mighty Dragons, came to our school to train our class on the back oval. We were splat into 2 groups and then we swapped activities at half time.
Nat’s group practised passing, grubber sticks and scoring pies. Trent’s group played bull kicking, bull-rush and Star Wars. Don’t ask us why it was called Star Wars - we don’t really know either!
The final score was that 4T won by 50 points. I think we mashed those two potatoes!

GAME - Soccer
TIME - 12:00 pm Night time!
SCORE - Cheetahs 0 vs Ducks 1
PLACE - Silly Chilly
WEATHER - Snowing and blowing
And it’s a thrilling game of soccer here at Silly Chilly. What’s this? The Cheetahs are eating on the job. Now we have only 6 ducks left!
And it’s coming down to the Ducks. They’re running and they’re passing the ball. NO!!!!!!!!
At the other end of the field, the Cheetahs have eaten FIVE ducks. It’s now down to the one last remaining duck.
He snaps. He quacks. And he scores!
Wow, quack, snap, the crowd roars.
As the Cheetah sneaks up on the victor and, gulp, gobbles him up as a post-game snack. Oh well, that is the end of the Ducks team.

The moxing batch of the century
In one corner we have Itsy Bitsy Spider and in the other corner we have Fire Fly, the light weight champion from the last Bolympics.
The trainers polished up the gloves - all 14 of them and they are ready to spart. Fly comes out of his corner firing on all six cylinders and does a quick jab and cross, knocking one of the spider’s legs off - we are now down to 13 gloves. Uh oh unlucky number.
Spider comes back with a ping and crunch, sends fly onto the mat. Spider’s time to try out his secret “weabon” - web and munch. The fly is trapped! A perfect lunch for the new lightweight champion - gloves and all.
He raises his 7 pegs in victory and the crowd goes child!!!!!
But wait - the spider feels a jumble in his tummy! He leans over! He burps and out flies Fire Fly. “I’m ready for a re-catch.”
Watch this space for the next round.
