What we have enjoyed about the Rap.

3/4SG loved the sharing of ideas and reading other schools’ responses.

Reading The Shaggy Gully Times was fun. The mistakes were clever and funny. Participating on a rap is like being on Facebook. The technology is fun, spontaneous and we can read all the responses straight away.

We look forward to other raps.
    Bye for now,

    HOWDY EVERYBODY !

This is 4M from Mowbray public school.
What we have enjoyed about the rap:

The book ‘Shaggy Gully Times’ was the punniest ////funniest never////ever made. Most of the students in our class really enjoyed it. Some students found it a bit hard to follow and did not get all the joke, puns and spoonerisms.

The rap gave us a chance to share lots of ideas online and read other people’s responses as well.

We liked Bruce Whatley’s illustrations – they caught your attention and they were funny and colourful.

We liked how Jackie French wrote the book like it was a newspaper – it made it interesting and funny.

We have enjoyed participating in the rap and look forward to doing other raps.
    See you later alligator,

Wrap rap up from 3B – Mowbray PS

This is what 3B liked about the rap:

We liked how Jackie French played with words – for example:
    * ‘the amazing poo’ instead of zoo
    * ‘The inedible theft’ instead of ‘the incredible theft’
    * ‘Goo owner’ instead of ‘zoo owner’ and many other funny words.

We also enjoyed Bruce Whatley’s outstanding pictures. You should try reading the book – it’s so funny trust me, it will make you laugh for the rest of your life.

Partaicipating in the rap was good becuase we got to share and compare ideas amongst our classmates and other schools.

We have enjoying our first rap.

That’s all we have to say – see you in a sentery not century!
    Bye for now,

    Howdy Rappers,

This is the first time that we have ever participated in a rap (and now we’re sayong goodbye boo hoo!)
    We enjoyed
. writing the sports report and thinking of humorous things to say about our class mates.
. reading The Shaggy Gully Times, especially the misspelt words, funs….oops puns, horror scopes, Match, Hatch, Despatch, illustrations, puzzles and the names of the contributors on the last page of the book.
. sharing ideas with other schools. It would have been good if we’d had a little more time. This was a very busy term for us.
We liked the group discussion and brainstorming ideas with our class mates.

Bye bye fellow rappers. We hope to hear from you next time round.

Ariverdici, au revoir, zia jen, sionara, adios, paalam.

  6.   penrithpsrappers Says:

    Hi everyone!

Today we did our Rap Reflections about this wonderful rap!

During the rap, some of us made changes to our healthy, active lifestyles, including:
joining Little Athletics (x2); walking the dogs (x2); playing a new sport; learning badminton; going to bed one hour earlier (x2); drinking more water; eating less chocolate; going running (x2); and eating carrots.

We were lucky to have a visit from former Australian Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, on Friday. She came with Christie and John from Little Athletics. Melinda told us to always do your best, run with your head straight (pretending there’s an apple balancing on your head), don’t look back, and always move your arms as fast as your legs. Melinda showed us her gold, silver and bronze medals.

During the rap, we learned to write clever sports articles by:
uploading text to the blog; sharing our ideas with others (x2); making up clever jokes and headlines; looking at how the illustrations can change the meaning of the words.

The highlights of this rap were:
uploading our rap responses to the blog; knowing other people were reading our work; knowing that learning can be fun; working together in small groups; naming Piplup; and talking to other schools.

    Thanks for the happy rapping!
Piplup and 3DV Maths @ Penrith PS

  7.   penrithpsrappers Says:

    Hello rappers!

Today the other half of the class also did our Rap Reflections!

During the rap, some of us made changes to our healthy, active lifestyles, including:
learning dancing and cheerleading; more running (x3); playing soccer with the dog – he dribbles the ball and also dribbles on the ball! – (x2); playing football; eating more vegetables; eating less chocolate; putting four things in my lunchbox instead of seven things; running two laps of my house; learning hip hop; and walking to school with my family instead of driving in the car.

Yesterday we learned about cystic fibrosis because our school was chosen to celebrate the start of the “Penrith to Barossa Valley 2008″ car rally!

Two drivers (dressed as clowns) showed us why children with cystic fibrosis can’t breathe properly. The volunteers had to use all their breath to blow up balloons. If you also hold your nose and breathe only through a straw for one minute, it shows you how hard it is to breathe with cystic fibrosis. Then we went out to the street with streamers and posters – and about 55 colourful cars drove by. They tooted their horns and two cars sprayed us with water. It was lots of fun.

During the rap, we learned to write clever sports articles by:
reading the local newspapers; finding jokes in the headlines; writing in small groups; and seeing how illustrations can make normal words funny. “If you only write normal stories they are not as much fun for others.”

The highlights of this rap were:
reading “The Shaggy Gully Times”; learning with the computer; writing articles that make you think; and having fun.

    We had lots of fun!

  8.   penrithpsrappers Says:

Welcome to SCHC’s rap wrap up with Phil the Frog,

From participating in this rap, we learned:
How to improve our healthy lifestyle by doing more running; learning to high jump and do shot put for the next Athletics Carnival; and walking around the playground for exercise.

To write an interesting sports report, we:
Made it as true as we could; thought of our ideas and wrote them together; typed our articles on the computer; made up a funny headline; laughed at funny jokes; and shared our work with other schools.

The highlight of this rap was:
Talking about the Olympic Games and Beijing; watching Olympic sports on TV; looking at the sports uniforms brought in by Melinda Gainsford-Taylor; Blake telling us about District Athletics Carnival; making up jokes with words; Phil the Frog teaching Blake to jump higher; finding our school badge on the rap blog.

Robbie says, “The most important message is that it doesn’t matter if you win or if you lose when playing sport. You should just try your best.”

    Hello Fellow Rappers,

Tarro Terrors here. We have enjoyed the rap for lots of reasons, such as working as a team, reading the interesting comments posted by everyone else and just having fun!

We’ve learned it is important to be healthy for lots of reasons, not just for your body.

In order to write a sports article you need to be able to type, have a bit of imagination, know lots of different words to make the article interesting and you need to interview people. We really enjoyed writing ours!

We have developed some new technology skills and we have learned to work together with other students who are not in our classes.

We had lots of ideas for what was the highlight of the wrap. Some thought just hanging out as a group was great, others said it was having fun and still others thought chatting to others was the best!

Thanks for rapping with us and we hope to meet up with some of you in future raps!

We’ve enjoyed this rap blog sooooooooo much – it was an awesome experience.

The best parts of it was when we got to read The $haggy Gully Times and when we wrote our own articles and puns.

We also loved learning about technology and how to use our Smart board.

Trying new fruit (passionfruit, watermelon); cutting out on junk food, hot chips and oil (x3); going across to the oval more; running more; playing football every day; rollerblading at Penrith Lakes; and combining yukky vegetables with foods I like, such as Chunky Beef Soup or Dinner Winner.

    Our highlights of this rap:
Having fun; enjoying the rap responses from other classes; doing fun things; finding funny jokes in “The Shaggy Gully Times”; not doing regular class work – this rap did not feel like work, but we were still learning heaps; and looking on the computer for the latest Olympic news.

    Hi everyone,

This is Phil the frog and SCHC wrapping up the rap some more, with Mrs Mead (who missed most of the fun)!

We resolve to get fitter by:
Starting to walk again in the mornings (in winter it was too cold and dark); using weights to improve arm muscles; running on weekends to become as fast as Usain Bolt (x2); do shotput to get stronger; signing up for summer cricket; and going bike riding to get ready for winter soccer.

To improve our writing skills, we:
Used our brains to find funny puns in words (like “tyre” and “tire”); thought about Phil the frog’s body, to get ideas about Blake long jumping; put our writing on the blog to share it with students at other schools; thought about our audience; chose different topics to write about (memories, the future, dreams); used our imagination; and wrote fiction and non fiction texts.

Our highlights of the rap were:
Talking about Olympic sports together; watching swimming; watching weightlifting on TV; watching wheelchair basketball (murderball) at the Paralympics; writing information texts for the rap; and watching the vision impaired swimming at the Paralympics.

Thank you for reading our rap responses.

    Staying healthy
Eat more fruit; eat more vegetables; do swimming (x2); get up and do things at lunchtime, instead of sitting around; exercise – go for jogs; run with the dog around Werrington Lakes; and walk to school – also saves on petrol.

Finding Jackie French’s deliberate mistakes improves our knowledge of how to use humour in our writing; how to make stories funny; bum leaves are funny; sometimes articles are linked across the double page and the readers have to do the work to link them up; headings and clever titles make us want to read the stories; factual knowledge of dragons helped us to make jokes about them.

    * Making up puns for the joke headlines (x3).
